Cooking in my "kitchen"

So one of these days I'll post pictures of my apartment so you can picture what I'm talking about...but basically I have a really really small "kitchen" that consists of an electric stove with two burners, a sink, a cupboard, and three drawers. I don't have an oven or a microwave, but I do have a rice cooker and a toaster. Its not much, but I've been making do. I go out to eat a lot (it's so cheap here, and you don't have to pay for tax OR tips, it's awesome), but I like cooking too. Last week, I finally got around to making some kimchee jji-gye for the first time! I had some staaanky, old kimchee that desperately needed to be stewed, throw in some onions, meat, and tofu, and voila!

A Korean specialty. It was easy as pie, and pretty delicious if I must say so myself.

The problem of the lack of oven has been okay, because I do most of my cooking on the stovetop, but doing any kinds of dessert is a problem. Not anymore! With my handy dandy rice cooker, I made myself some cookies. Well... they weren't homemade - they were from a double chocolate chip mix. It worked kinda well, the cooking by steaming method cooked the dough, but it didn't really melt the chocolate or make the tops of the cookies crispy which I think is the best part of cookies. Also, I could only make a couple at a time:

Not as good as an oven, but it's possible! What should I make next???

In other food news, my school took us out to eat last week to a Chinese restaurant where they had a dim sum buffet. These were some of the buns you could get: a bird, pig, porcupine, and a snake! Apparently there was a panda too, but we didn't get that one :)

Oh yeah, and they took us out to eat as a "thank you" for helping out with the annual school Halloween party, which took up all of Friday night for set up and all day on Saturday for the party and clean up. Helping with the Halloween party was a part of our contract, so it was technically unpaid work. But hey, the owner of our school took us out for Korean bbq and looots of soju after the party, and then we also got the Chinese lunch. I painted faces for 6 hours straight, and I painted lots of pumpkins, flowers, scary faces, and other random stuff. Who wants to guess what I went as for Halloween?

That's right, Harrrrry Potter!! I had a lighting scar painted on my forehead, but it rubbed off. One of my co-workers was a dementor:

Expecto patronum biatches.

Oh You are so my favorite. Even if you decide to live in Korea FOREVA (which I highly recommend not doing cause I NEED you) you better make at least a sojourn next fall or the next spring.
