Driving in Cars with Parents

...never a fun thing

On Saturday afternoon Hannah and I made the two hour trip up to the Sacramento area with our parents to visit my Dad's only sister, my uncle, and two cousins that moved to Rancho Cordova, right outside Sacramento. Lets just say that driving with my parents is pretty much one of the most stressful things, especially if you're the one driving their new car and they're sitting in the backseat literally being backseat drivers. And its raining. And dark. And there's lots of cars on the wet roads. Not so fun! This was my first time visiting them since they moved about two years ago (hey, I wasn't exactly around much), and I still haven't really seen the city of Sacramento at all. I've driven through/past numerous times on the way to Tahoe, or to go to a field hockey tournament in Davis, but I've never actually BEEN to the capital of the golden state. Apparently I'm not missing much. But next time, I'm gonna go see the capitol. Maybe the Gubernator will be there. Probably not though, he's a So-Caler.

Anyways, we went for my Halmonee's Jae-Sa - the anniversary of the death of my paternal grandmother (Halmonee), in the Korean tradition of honoring your ancestors, but with a Christian undertone. We had a short service where we sang, prayed, and shared memories of Halmonee, and then proceeded to stuff ourselves with some yummy Korean food. My aunt got her cooking skillz from her mom, who was the best cook EVER, so I pretty much just ate A LOT. Otherwise, the younger cousin was as mute and uninteresting as ever, and his older brother was working, which is a shame becauese he actually talks. But every time I see my aunt, it is just amazing how much she looks like Halmonee. Seriously, put about twenty years on her and she could be the twin of the Halmonee I remember. My Halmonee was the only grandparent I knew and was basically the awesomest lady, who was known at our church for her Kimchee and all around prowess in the kitchen (there's a reason I love food so much), and she lived with us from before I was born until I was 12, basically as my second mother. Best Halmonee ever.

I had more to write, but its 5:30 and I'm going home. PEACE.
