Oops
Okay, so its been almost two weeks since I last blogged (wait, is there a blogging sect of Catholicism?). I've been a bit busy with people coming into town, traveling out of town, actually doing work at work, etc. I even have a little post-it on my desk where I write stuff down so I remember to blog about it. So the post-it is a little full. I think I'll have to break it up into a couple of blogs so I don't have one entry that is ten pages long. So where to start. Okay.
The Wilczak came into town for a visit last week and we got some beach time, going out-ness, and chillin' time in while she was here, despite the craziness that was suddenly my life. First some sad news, the Kim's grandmother passed away two Fridays ago after a good, long life, and so Sue and Jane came into town, and my brother and sis-in-law also drove up from LA to attend her memorial service. The Kim's grandmother was a buddy of my grandmother back in the day and she has known me all my life, so I've always had a place in my heart for her. She was an amazing woman of faith and a super cool halmonie.
So I juggled seeing the W and friends and hanging out with my family and church friends that weekend, and then on Tuesday my cousin came back from her trip to Seattle, and my other cousin who lives in LA drove up with her hubby and baby and stayed with us for two nights. Baby Eric is soooo cute so it was a lot of fun to have him in our house and watch him roll over and attempt to crawl. But Sue and W were still in town so I wanted to see them too. Needless to say, I didn't go to sleep before 1 am all of last week so I was severely sleep deprived at work.
And then on Friday, I took the day off from work and drove down to LA for the weekend with my cousin who lives with us and his visiting sister/my cousin. We were initially thinking of going to Disneyland for a day, but when we realized there was going to be a heat wave this weekend in LA (and I think pretty much everywhere), we thought better of it. Instead, we stayed with my bro and sis-in-law and showed my cousin the craziness that is LA. The weekend was pretty much the summation of everything that one would dislike about LA. We got stuck in some pretty nasty traffic pretty much everywhere we went, the heat was unbearable, and when we went to Hollywood Boulevard (the Walk of Fame), all the crazies were out. We went at about 10:30 pm on Friday night (after a delicious dinner of Korean BBQ) and there were your typical people dressed as pirates, a little person dressed as Chucky, hoochies going out to the clubs, drunkies, and oh yeah, a guy with blood pouring down his face and all over his front. I actually initially thought the blood was fake and the guy was dressing up as a Freddy Kreuger victim or something, but no, suddenly there were cops and ambulances everwhere and yellow tape blocking off the sidewalk. We think there was some kind of fight, but who knows. We felt bad about showing our cousin the shadiness and seediness that actually is Hollywood and not the glamour that it is in the movies. Oh well, we got to see baby Eric and our cousin a lot and we went to the Grove, the Disney Concert Hall, and the 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica. I also had my first taste of Beard Papa's cream puffs. DELICIOUS!!!
We drove back up on Sunday, and now my house is almost back to normal...except oh yeah, my aunt and uncle are visiting from Korea and staying with us, and a couple from LA both my parents and my aunt and uncle know came up to visit but are staying at a hotel nearby. Their plan while they're here is pretty much to go golfing everyday, and eat well and drink at night. Not too shabby, I have to say.
Now I'm realizing that I'm going to Korea NEXT WEEK!! and I need to get ready...what do I need to do? I don't know, gotta figure that out. But I have a feeling life will definitely not get back to normal until I get back from Korea and the summer is over. Maybe normal is overrated...
I'm not sure if she still reads my blog, but HAPPY BIRTHDAY to a Ms. Sarah McC!!! Hope you're celebratin' up your 23rd Iowa-style!!
Oh yes, and happy belated birfday to Ishani and Hannah!! Hannah! Tapas and Sangria!!
