Baseball Woes

Haven't had a baseball post in awhile...unfortunately, its not the best time for my Giants right now. They're currently in Colorado and they lost last night. And they didn't just lose, they lost BAD. Like, 20 - 8 bad. Now the Giants are third in the NL West, 4.5 games behind first place, and 4 games behind the NL wildcard leading Padres. A couple of days ago, things were looking up and it actually looked like the Giants might have a chance of winning either the wild card or less likely, first place, but now hopes are dimming. Oh, they are dimming. I've wavered between realistically skeptical and almost realistically hopeful this whole season so I never really had super high hopes, but its still sad to think that there most likely will not be a post-season. I'm hoping that they'll at least end the season over.500 - even if it is only a game over .500, and they take down the Dodgers during their last series so they don't win the division. I'd much rather see the Padres win it any day.

What makes last night's horrendous loss even worse is that the Dodgers beat the Padres in LA in a way that any baseball fan has to admire and be amazed at no matter how much you hate the team. The Dodgers were down in the bottom of the ninth 5-9, and proceeded to tie the game up with 4 HOMERUNS IN A ROW. It was 4 homeruns in a matter of 7 pitches. Talk about a blown save - I think the Padres' closer, Trevor Hoffman, gave up two of the homeruns. The game went into extra innings and the Padres scored one in the 10th to make it 10-9. And then what happened in the bottom of the 10th?? Oh yeah, Nomar Garciaparra hit a two-run walk off homerun. GAH!!

Thinking about that actually makes me go a little crazy. By winning, the evil blue men from LA kept their 1/2 game lead in the NL West.

In other sports new, the NU football team beat some kind of Michigan team on Saturday(Eastern Michigan?), but not by much. Big Ten play starts soon, and I have a feeling its going to be a season of, ahem, rebuilding. I'm not sure if I'm going to have much to look forward to in terms of my sports teams until...NU women's lacrosse starts again? Another season of some serious lacrosse ass-kicking!!
