Today I joined a gym with the greatest name, Jamaica Fitness! It opened about three weeks ago in a building just down the street from me (literally a 1-2 minute walk) and I noticed the Grand opening sign a couple of days ago. All the treadmills have TV's, and there's a sauna and yoga and pilates classes. The best part is that its so close to my apartment. I went to the gym maybe 3-4 times a week back home but I haven't done any kind of workout since I got to Korea besides a short hike and a lot of stairs and walking. I went for the first time this evening...and I have a feeling I'm in for a world of pain tomorrow when I wake up. Don't you hate it how it takes forever to get in shape, and then just no time to get out of shape? I worked out consistently for about a year and half and after just three months of being a bum - but not completely, I've been walking a lot! - I feel the squishyness. And my body always gets sore whenever I start a new physical exercise, without fail - my muscles are just more sensitive I guess.
Its kinda funny, I don't know if this is a Korean gym thing or if its just this gym or something, but you can pay 5,000 won (about $6) a month and rent gym clothes every time you go. So no need to get your own, and you don't have to worry about washing them. I opted out of that one since I have my own gym clothes...but it seemed like most of the other people at the gym are paying the money, so everyone was wearing the same black shorts and black t shirt. I kinda felt like I stuck out in my blue shorts and NorthwesternFieldHockey t-shirt. Oh well, I'm saving 5,000 won a month! Who's the sucka now?!?!
I have a 5-day weekend coming up for Chuseok, which is like the Korean Thanksgiving, but more important. I could have gone to China, but I decided that I want to celebrate Chuseok for the first time, and celebrate it with my family here. The rest of the days I'll be bumming around Seoul (which apparently gets really empty because everyone goes back to their hometowns), going to Deok Jeok Island for a day with my cuz near Incheon, and relaxing. I can't wait!
