*weather update* - no rain today so far!! it was gorgeous and sunny outside pretty much all day today, maybe God took pity on everyone in the Bay Area's misery. And the Giants played the first game of their double header this afternoon and won!
Pyeong Taek Ee Moh

At the Korea vs. Costa Rica soccer game - From right to left is my cousin James, my mom, and my mom's cousin, aka "Pyeong Taek Ee Moh," who basically is an aunt to me in name and status in Korean culture. When my siblings and I were growing up, we knew and referred to her as "orphanage lady" because pretty much all we knew about her was that she ran an orphanage in Korea. Anyways, I vaguely remember visiting the orphanage lady when my family went on a trip to Korea when was 7 (then again I could be making it up that what I remember was the orphanage), and she's come to visit us in America a couple of times since then, and now she is apparently living in Oakland. Sometime between when we were kids and now, "orphanage lady" shed her nickname, probably because she no longer had the orphanage, and she was referred to as "Pyeong Taek Ee Moh." The last two words mean "aunt" in Korean, and usually the first two words describe where they fall in order in the family, like "oldest," "second," "third," "youngest," etc., or sometimes their name. So I always assumed that since "Pyeong Taek" doesn't indicate order, it was her name. But apparently I was very wrong. It all came out this past summer when lots of relatives came for my brother's wedding. I don't remember the details of how it came out, but someone found out that I thought Pyeong Taek was her name and everyone proceeded to laugh really hard at me. Apparently, Pyeong Taek is actually the city where my mom's cousin lived in Korea not too far south of Seoul, and not, in fact, her name, as I assumed it was for I dont' know how many years. whoops! Hey, I've never said I was good at Korean, and I guess my geography is pretty sucky too.
CANDY!!!!

This is Carol, aka the Hater. She's my pastor's youngest daughter and she's almost two years old. She loooooves candy. Especially chocolate and lollipops. She's known to be a pretty moody, bipolar baby, the kind that is your best friend one minute and can't stand the sight of you the next. Hence, the Hater. BUT - the best way to get on her good side, at least temporarily, is to be in posession of some sugary goodness. If candy is across the room, when she sees it she just points and makes little grunt/squeal/bark noises and if you give her some, she always comes back for more. So this is Carol, chillin' on her Snow White sofa, hangin' out with Piglet, and suckin' on a lolli. She literally just sat there looking completely relaxed, like someone would look on a Friday after a hard week sittin' on the couch and enjoying a beer. So funny. Sometimes the Hater is just misunderstood. You just gotta give her what she wants.
It's quittin' time so I'll do Photo blog Part II tomorrow.
Oh yeah, and they just announced that this year's Commencement speaker for NU is going to be Illinois junior Senator, Barack Obama. How frikin' awesome is that, and how jealous am I. We had John McCain last year, but he ended up being a total bust. Talk about the most depressing, downer graduation speech ever. It's an important issue, but I really don't think genocide was the most appropriate graduation speech topic. Yay, congratulations on graduating! Welcome to the real world, it sucks!!
