I can't believe its already mid November. It doesn't feel like this year has gone by particularly fast, but it does seem like the months just fly by. For example, at this time last year I was still waiting to hear whether I got the job I currently have, and working as a temp. I can't believe I haven't even been working here for a year yet. But at the same time, wasn't it just October? And now Thanksgiving is already next week and then Christmas just four weeks later! I can already tell that from now until New Year's is going to be a whooooole lotta holiday parties and mini-reunions and lots and lots and lots of EATING. So far, I have Thanksgiving dinner at church on Sunday, a Thanksgiving lunch at work on Tuesday, home Thanksgiving goodness on Thanksgiving day, a holiday party fundraisier on Dec 1, a work holiday party on December 15 (which is going to be at the Winchester Mystery House. kinda random, but I've never been there so at least its different), Christmas dinner on Christmas, baby Eric's first birthday party on December 30th, and New Year's Eve craziness. I'm pretty much looking forward to it all, and I'm willing to put in the gym time to counteract all the gluttonous eating.
For the Thanksgiving lunch at work, there is a dessert making contest, and the winner gets a dinner for two in a fancy restaurant in the area. I want to win it, but I don't have any really spectacular dessert recipes. Anyone have any suggestions?

i got one, it involves lady fingers, rum, and chocolate - i got it from my french host family they made it for easter - its so tasty
how about anything with crepes? or chocolate molten cakes. oh yeah...
i have the greatest carrot cake recipe in the world... not exactly christmassy, but completely foolproof and astonishingly delicious.
i also have a cookbook with a recipe for traditional english christmas pudding. but you have to make it a month in advance and leave it in the closet to steep in brandy and then to serve it you light it on fire, so maybe that's not the most practical thing for a party in a public building that probably has fire codes, etc.
love,
rachel
