Nope, not nervous about anything - my feet are just literally cold right now. For some reason, my office is always freezing and it pretty much stays like that all day. I usually don't take off my jacket until late in the afternoon most days. Its been rainy and cold all week here, which I guess is making up for my last post and the 75 degree weather.
HaHA! So, seeing that it is already the last day in February (does anyone else always forget that February only has 28 days?), I've decided to do a New Years Resolutions post. I know, its about two months late, but hey, I play by my own rules. Actually, about two or three weeks into January I decided that/made the excuse that this year I was going to go back to my roots and do a New Year's post to coincide with Lunar New Year on February 18th. So really, the post is only about 10 days late. So first, a review and update on the 2006 resolutions I posted last year:
1) Don't waste my gym membership
Gold star! I'd say I'm pretty proud of myself for sticking to this resolution. Since I started my gym membership in January of 2006, I've gone to the gym at least 3-4 times almost every week. I even expanded my membership from only 4 days a week to everyday so I could have more flexibility on when I could go. I think I've regained a lot of the muscle I lost in college (my Squishy Sarah phase), and am generally more healthy and fit. Yay me.
2) Read a lot
I'm always in the middle of reading a book, I'd say this is pretty much a life-long resolution. Most recent books I've read: The Namesake (again), Prep, The Tipping Point, Making it Up, Julie and Julia, The Golden Compass, and currently reading Speaker for the Dead.
3) Become better at knitting and learn to crochet
I took a crocheting class with Adria a couple of months ago, so I can say that I now know how to crochet - my first crochet project was a hood scarf for Linette! And I learned how to knit in the round this year, and made my first hats and mittens. I also taught myself how to to do cable knitting, and I started my first blanket. I'm a grandma in training.
4) Start to play tennis
I took tennis lessons with my cousin this past summer, and that was about it. We haven't really had the chance to play since. It was a basic course and I don't know how much I actually learned, but hey - I started playing, so I guess that counts.
5) Eat healthier
Hmmm I don't really know how to judge this...but I guess I could say that I do think about what I'm eating more, and try to stay away from bad stuff and eat in moderation. Doesn't mean I always do it though. This is probably why I couldn't say that I lost a bunch of weight after my year of being a gym rat (but muscle weighs more than fat...right?).
6) Stay in better touch with friends
I think I was a little too vague on this one, and I don't really think I did any better in terms of staying in touch with friends this year. Maybe a couple of friends, but not as many as I would have liked. Sorry friends.
7) Finish my Europe scrapbook
Another Gold star!! I finished the scrapbook a couple of months ago, and its HUGE. There's lots of pictures, souvenirs, and scraps of random stuff in there so it weighs like 20 pounds, but its done! Yay me again.
So overally, I think I did pretty well. Although, most of the resolutions were pretty standard and not exactly a challenge. I think this year is going to be more detailed and a more risk-taking year. hmm, so lets see, in 2007 I resolve to:
1) Move to Korea and get a job teaching English and live on my own for a year.
2) Travel as much as possible while in Asia. Explore all of South Korea, and visit South East Asia, China, Taiwan, and Japan.
3) Improve my Korean - get more comfortable speaking the language.
4) Apply to grad school
5) Leave my job on a high note, finishing everything I started and tie up all loose ends.
6) Keep in touch with contacts and connections made during the past year and a half.
7) Read psychology, counseling, other relevant academic books as a refresher and to prepare myself for grad school.
8) Make a bigger effort to stay in touch with friends especially when I'm in Korea.
9) Pretty much continue all of last year's resolutions, keep exercising, reading, eat healthier, keep knitting.
Okay, so not so much risk taking like going bungee jumping or something, but a couple of them definitely involve a lot of change and doing something different, so I'd call it risky. I'm now officially ready for 2007 -a little late, but better late than never. Plus, its the year of the Pig! Its my year, I gotta get some slack for that.
