Taking Dentist Chair small talk to another level

So, as I wrote below, I went to the dentist yesterday to refill some fillings that were getting old with the tooth-colored stuff. Last time I went to the dentist for a cleaning, I came out pretty traumatized, but this time I just came out...bewildered. First of all, my dentist added some little screens in front of his chairs where patients can watch movies while they wait...but not while they're getting any work done because the angle of the screen doesn't exactly work if you're laying on your back with a bright light shining into your mouth. Yesterday I walked in and it was playing some kind of old musical set in a fake tropical setting. I guessed it was South Pacific, and I was right even though I've never seen it before - you know, because I'm kind of a freak like that. Anyways, my dentist comes in and says the usual pleasantries and we have a small conversation about the movies that he has played on the little screens.

So he gets right to work with the numbing and the drilling and the filling, and right after he finishes the drilling and does a little filling, he just stops, takes everything out of my mouth, and starts talking to me about the movie The Matrix! WTH!?! It was seriously so random, I could barely get over the fact that half my mouth was numb and there were holes in two of my teeth, to answer his questions. He asked me if i'd seen the movies, I told him only the first one is worth watching again, he told me that after he watched the movie, his son told him that there are other meanings within the movie, I told him that there are some Christian overtones and other "philosophical" things that people have taken from the movies, the dental technician girl gets into the conversation and agrees with me about the second two movies being crap...it was just bizarre. Then suddenly the conversation was over and he got right back to filling the cavities. So, so weird.
