Blog #101

So I just realized that the last blog entry was #100 for my edumacation, I guess you could call it a milestone of sorts. Congratumacations!! Its like when babies turn 100 days old in Korea - they get big parties with lots and lots of rice cake and fruit and stuff, and the babies are usually crying because they're wearing itchy traditional Korean clothes. Good times.

So lets see, weekend recap - Friday night I went to my first Giants game of the season with Hannah, Linette, and Sukims alls the way from Boston. The drive up took too long which sucked because the first 20,000 fans got free orange Giants hats, and we got there too late. Oh well - I guess I already have two free hats, but neither are orange! The game was cold and fun - I got my hot link and garlic fries:) But for the first 5 innings or so, there was a really obnoxious group of college students sitting in the row behind us and they were unbelievably drunk and loud. They were SO LOUD. I think people might have complained or something, but slowly we noticed that more and more security people were just hanging around the area. Finally, they gave them a warning for using "inapproriate language"and then a couple of innings later they just kind of...disappeared. I think they actually did get kicked out of the park. Ahhh then we could enjoy the game in peace. Which we won, 10-3 yaaaay.

Saturday I went from a graduation in the afternoon to a funeral in the evening, and neither fit your typical idea of what you'd picture for a graduation or a funeral. The graduation was in San Francisco, and it was very casual and for a small Graduate writing program, so each graduate read a sample of their writing. No caps and gowns for this one. It was kinda long and I don't think I got half of it, but congrats to Lin!!
A bunch of us from my church went to the graduation, and then we all pretty much just went straight to the funeral. Not for one of our elders, but for a 7 year old girl from our church who had died of a massive brain aneurism a couple of days earlier. It was pretty much the saddest thing ever. The headache and vomiting came on so quickly, and then suddenly her parents had to decide to take their daughter off life support because she was brain dead, and whether they wanted to donate her organs. I can't imagine going through that and having to make those decisions about your own child, its just heartbreaking. The service was packed and even people like me, who didn't really know Jean that well except for occasionally almost being run over by her and her giggling running friends at church on Sundays, were mourning this sweet little girl in the too-small white casket. How could you not cry for her mother, who looked like she hadn't stopped crying in days, or her silent father, or her little four year old sister, who didn't really understand and asked in a letter to her sister whether she had a house and friends in heaven. With her death, Jean was able to save the lives of three children, but I'm sure that doesn't provide a lot of comfort to her family right now. When something like this happens, what can you do but pray for healing.

Sunday I got to see some oldie but still a goodie friends - i love the Kim sisters - and did the usual Sunday routine. Greys Anatomy was a great episode, and the West Wing was good too. Also, our ver own San Jose Sharks beat the Nashville Predators in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs. Go Sharks! I've never been to a hockey game, but they inspire me to want to go - and they're my only fo' reals hometown team. Also, their top scorer's last name is CheeChoo -how awesome of a name is that?!!? Gooooo Sharks. The end.
