I lost my badge...again
So I have this badge I need to get into work, and for the second time in about a month, I lost it. I think it was lost on Monday, I remember taking it off and putting it in my bag as I was walking through Stanford Mall to find someplace to eat before the Volunteer orientation, and sometime between that and the next morning, it lost itself. Last time I think it fell out of my bag in the parking lot of Safeway. I felt like such an ass going to the badge office again to get another new one, I don't know what is going on - I never lose things! And I lost it twice! I'm losing it apparently...
So I just wanted to share an exerpt from my friend's blog about something that happened to her that's just crazy and pretty dang funny:
Last night I was walking home on Mass Ave. from my cancelled Chinese class, when I noticed a traffic jam of sorts. The cause of the jam was a Honda Civic on my side of the street that was moving really slowly and had its flashers on. I was walking against the traffic on my side of the street, so as the Civic moved along, I got closer and saw that there was no one in the driver's seat! And the Civic was headed toward the oncoming traffic on the other side of the road! I looked around for the owner pretty confused (no luck) and then it hit me that the Civic was going to hit an oncoming car. Then this "do-the-right-thing" urge came over me, and I ran to the Civic and tried to open the passenger-side door while it was one foot away from hitting the oncoming car. But it was locked. So then I tried telling the woman in the oncoming car, which had slowed down when it saw me run into the street, to move out of the way. But there was a row of cars behind this poor woman, so she couldn't go anywhere. So then I tried stopping the car, as in grabbing the sideview mirror and stop the car from rolling. No luck, it hit the car.
There was a pedestrian who witnessed the whole thing, and said to me encouragingly, because I guess I looked stunned still, "It's ok. You tried."
There were a couple police people there and the policewoman asked us, "Who's car is this?" And then I saw the other person go up to a woman walking on the sidewalk with a pizza and tell her something, and the pizza woman gasps really loudly with her mouth agape.
I guess she left her car in neutral. I was sad I couldn't stop the car, but I hope the pizza was worth it.
Too bad she didn't have superhuman strength and could stop the car. Haha, the craziest things happen to SuZamma :)
Okay people, this is an exciting movie week; of course, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire opens on Friday, and then in one week the RENT movie opens!!! Two things that I am obsessed with, how awesome.
Its also an amazing food week: Sunday commences the wonderfulness that is Thanksgiving food with my church's annual Thanksgiving meal - that I haven't been able to partake in for four years, and of course next Thursday is the big meal! I give thanks on Thanksgiving for lots of things - turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, yams, pumpkin pie, rolls, mmmmmmmm. Oh yeah, and I guess having the whole family there will be pretty nice too.
So tomorrow for work there is a year-end celebration at some bar/restaurant nearby, and everyone is invited for cocktails and appetizers. I think it'll be kinda weird, but I guess I'll go - free food and drink right? I'll probably hang out with my fellow admins, some very nice ladies in their 40's and 50's. We'll see how the accountants partay. Who knows, it might be wiiild.
